Aphid Pest Control Services
For a very small creature, aphids can be a big problem for your plants, both indoors and outdoors. At Green’s Lawncare & Property Services, we’re dedicated to protecting your property from all kinds of invading insects, including aphids. Call us today at (317) 748-3153 for a free estimate on aphid pest control.
Aphids are miniscule, less than a tenth of an inch long. They all have a pear-shaped body with long legs and long antennae. Their body color varies a lot (black, green, brown, etc.), but aphids are usually found munching on plant parts that are the same color as their bodies. They eat leaves, stems, flower, bark, and even roots of bushes, trees, and other plants in the landscape. Aphids congregate in colonies and feed on the new growth in plants. Usually, on mature plants, they’re more of a nuisance and an ugly sight rather than a destructive force. But they can decimate young plants and reduce the health of mature trees and shrubs. When the aphid population gets high enough, they may transmit viruses to your plants, which will be evident when they turn yellow, have stunted growth, or curling leaves. Aphids also secrete a substance called “honeydew” which encourages mold on your landscape plants. “Honeydew” also leaves sticky patches where it falls on decks, paths, and other hard surfaces.
Aphids can reproduce many times during one year in the Indianapolis area. In the warm summer months, many species can grow from newborn larvae to mature adults in just 8 days. And since they don’t need a mate to reproduce, they can create up to 80 babies a week.
